| Service Description | Number Teeth on Engine Sprocket | Number Teeth on Clutch Sprocket | Number Teeth on Counter-shaft Sprocket | Number Teeth on Rear Wheel Sprocket | High Gear Ratio |
| For solo service (standard) | 17 | 43 | 28 | 48 | 4.34 |
| For sidecar service in level country where roads are good | 16 | 43 | 28 | 48 | 4.61 |
| For ordinary sidecar service (standard) | 15 | 43 | 28 | 48 | 4.91 |
| For sidecar service in hilly country | 14 | 43 | 28 | 48 | 5.27 |
The three speed transmission provides a gear reduction of 2 1/4 to 1
on low gear and 1 1/2 to 1 on intermediate. The low gear ratio can be
obtained by multiplying the high gear ratio by 2 1/4. Likewise, the inter
mediate gear ratio can be obtained by multiplying the high gear ratio
by 1 1/2.
How to Figure Gear Ratios
As a matter of information, the high gear ratio for any combination
of sprockets may be obtained as follows:
Multiply the number of teeth on the engine sprocket by the number
of teeth on the inside countershaft sprocket; then multiply the number
of teeth on the outside countershaft sprocket, or clutch sprocket, by the
number of teeth on the rear wheel sprocket. Divide the result of the
second multiplication by the result of the first multiplication. This will
give the high gear ratio. To obtain the intermediate gear ratio or the low
gear ratio, multiply the high gear ratio by 1 1/2 and 2 1/4 respectively, as
already explained.
